How to spot a scammer’s latest tactic
The latest version of the Financial Post’s online fraud tool was released last week, but it’s already attracting attention for a different reason: It’s a big step up from its predecessor.
The latest iteration is more detailed and interactive, and allows users to quickly check for suspicious transactions, a feature that was missing in previous versions of the tool.
The new tool is a much faster and more robust version of its predecessor, which had to be downloaded and configured by the user before it could be used.
The financial crime tools that the Financial Times uses are designed to be quick, effective and user-friendly.
And it’s that combination of speed, usability and simplicity that has earned the Financial Press its reputation for being the “world’s leading fraud detection tool,” according to its founder, Michael D. Risley.
But while the Financial Examiner, Financial Times and the Financial Sentinel all make a great first impression, the Financial Report also makes a big splash in the eyes of fraudsters.
A scammer will often use one of the two tools listed above to quickly and easily get their hands on your bank account information, but a scammers can also use the Financial Reports to send fake email attachments that contain personal details like addresses and phone numbers.
If you think you’ve been scammed, don’t panic.
While scammers may be able to easily identify the Financial Reporter, they’re unlikely to be able get it to send email attachments like the one pictured below.
The scammer may use the new version of FraudReport, but they’re likely to be targeting a different user.
Here are some tips to keep in mind when trying to spot the scammer: Use caution.
The FraudReport and the MoneyReport can be helpful in identifying fraud, but if you think someone is sending you a scam, you’ll need to use both tools.
Use the FraudReport to check if a payment you received is fraudulent, and use the Money Report to check whether you’ve received a fraudulent transaction.
Scammers have been known to use the Fraudreport to send emails that look legitimate but contain personal information like your name, address and credit card number.
If they’re using a new version, make sure you don’t send the email attachments by mistake.
If it doesn’t work, report it to us.
If fraudsters have successfully impersonated you, you can report it online.
