The company says the low-cost equipment used in gymnasiums has been around since the 1960s and has been an important part of Australian health and wellbeing for more than 70 years.
It said there had been a decline in the cost of gym equipment over the past few years, but that was still a good deal for consumers.
“The low cost of a gym equipment has increased from around $30,000 in 1980 to $40,000 today,” Mr Coates said.
“And so, even if the cost goes up, the value of the equipment stays the same.”
“I think a lot of people think gym equipment is just about getting the workout done and it’s not a healthy activity.”
Mr Coates is a gym instructor himself and says he has noticed a trend in the way Australian people spend their time.
“We have people who don’t use gym equipment and then they say to their friends, ‘Oh, I have to get my cardio done’,” he said.
Mr Cooper said gym equipment used to be a necessity, and was used for people who had to train for a job.
But now there was an increasing number of people who were going to gym without a gym membership, he said, and so it became important to provide more affordable gym equipment.
He said the changes in equipment made sense to his business, and it was the right thing to do.
“You know, when we first started doing this, we were a gym, we used to have a little gym, you know, in the back,” he said of his old business.
It’s not like we’re in the age of technology where we don’t have people to teach our students to do the work, so we’re really looking at the benefits of having our gym available to people who need it and that’s why we’re so passionate about this.
“While some may have the gym equipment at home, Mr Cooper said they needed to pay for it themselves.
For now, Mr Coaters is hoping to keep the business going, with his two sons having been enrolled in school for about two years.
